oz the great and powerful Title: Oz the Great and Powerful

Rating: 3.5

Synopsis: Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. At first he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking. That all changes, however, when he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

From the moment that this movie came out I was told that it was amazing. Everyone loved James Franco and Mila Kunis in the movie. They said that it was a great prequel to The Wizard of Oz. So this weekend when my mother rented the movie I knew I had to watch it. My fiance wanted to see the movie and so did I thus we figured, why not?

We put the movie on and we were watching it. I, honestly, wasn’t impressed. When you first meet Mila Kunis you figure that she’s going to have a great role and she’s going to be the heroine. Well she’s not. It was a little disappointing. In addition, the movie seemed to drag on. It explained a little bit of the Wizard of Oz like the cowardly lion and the scarecrow (kinda). But there was no Tin Man and no Ruby Slippers. Again, very disappointing.

To top it off, the movie didn’t actually get good until about 2/3-3/4 of the way through. The rest of it was showing how Oz was nothing more than a Con Man. In general I was less than enthused about this movie. There was much more hype than the movie brought through and it was upsetting to realize that the movie wasn’t actually that great. I almost felt as if my time was wasted watching this movie.

Unless you are a HUGE fan of Wizard of Oz and just HAVE to know how the wizard ended up there, don’t watch this movie. Honestly, it’s not worth it.
